Letter 'P' Fun

We were happy to welcome Ellie to preschool today making us a class of 7!

You can tell Kristinah is happy to have another girl in the class!-

Today we popped popcorn for the letter P-

We read books about pumpkins and learned all the things you can do with it:
-eat seeds
-make pumpkin pie
-paint it
-carve it
-use the seeds to grow more pumpkins.
we got to have some pumpkin pie for snack-

we also took out handfuls of the pumpkin pulp and came up with some descriptive words to describe it. And we talked about different faces you can put on a pumpkin and drew our own happy, mad and scared faces.

A few other things we did today was trace our squares and letter P as well as recall events that happened in our story and cross out ones that didn't.

Then Show and Tell was great to strengthen our knowledge of things that start with P. Everyone was very creative, we had: pencil, pomegranate seeds, Percy the train, a puppy, a pony, piglet, a picture, a pillow, and a puzzle!

And of course we couldn't pass up playing outside in this beautiful weather!-

Halloween Party

The weather was bad, our friend Zach was throwing up, and Carter was at a funeral, But down in our preschool four little friends had a wonderful party.

We had tasty snacks:
green juice with eyeballs-

We played games:

and the spider ring toss.
We made Halloween bags that we could put all our prizes in-


We broke our Ghost pinata with the help of some scissors to cut him open-

Little Men in Black

We had four cute little boys in black today. We missed Kristinah and Alex.

We made ghosts with their little feet, they all laughed when I painted their foot with a sponge-I guess it tickles. We also played a spider matching game, painted leaves to go on my announcement bulletin board, and made our H page (hungry horses eating hay). The Halloween show and tells were spooky fun!

The Halloween party is on Wednesday so don't forget your costume and something for the pinata.

And good luck to Carter's mom Cammie at the doctor and at the funeral this week. We will miss Carter at the party!

Halloween Party

The Halloween Party is next Wednesday. So far we have Sara bringing sugar cookies and Rachel bringing a little pumpkin for our game. We still need:

-a roll of toilet paper
-frosting
-any cookie decorating candy
-a fun healthy Halloween snack

**and then everyone bring 6 of something to put in the Pinata.

-Again, anyone is welcome to bring treats or things for the kids to take home with them. (It is not required)
-Parents are welcome to stay and play with us

***Wear costumes***

So far this is what I have planned for the party:
-we'll start the day like we always do so we don't throw the routine to far off
-names
-circle time (songs, story, calendar)
-center time=decorate cookies, a craft
-group games=turn into mummies, pass the pumpkin, find the spider
-5 minute free play
-snack (hopefully healthier than cookies)
-Pinata
-Goodbye routine

I was glad to see all the kids feeling better today. A few things we did this week included:
-marble painted spider webs
-made tiny tire tracks with paint and small cars for the letter T
-play spider color matching game
-weaved yarn on a plate to make a web
-spooky playdough
-tracing and naming ovals
-we pulled mystery objects out of a bag an decided with they had the 't' sound or not.
-sang spider songs plus many more

**I finished most of my baseline testing and we will be having a little parent/teacher conference in November so we can go over exactly where your child is at and where you want them to be.

Colubus Day,Monsters, Wild Things, Orange, and the letter O

Today we had a packed day:
-The kids made Wild Things and read the story using puppets.
-We made monster masks,
-Made a book about colored monsters.
-We made a chart of things that are real and things that are pretend
-We enjoyed all the orange show and tell and orange shirts!
-We learned about Christopher Columbus.
-We practiced touch counting to 10
-Played
-Had a yummy snack-

I've been trying to set up cooperative pretend play where two or more kids play together. And I have to say everyone plays so well. You're kids are very creative and they get along very well!

My favorite is when Carter and Kristinah play house. They make the dolls call each other dear, they talk about how things cost so much money, they put the babies to bed, and yell at the kids to go to their rooms. :) I will have to try and get a video of their amazing mother and father skills.

Painting and Alphabet binoculars

The kids had a blast making their binoculars. We use these to spot our letter of the week and the letters we have already learned.

Show and Tell was great to help teach what starts with B. Monday we also made Beautiful butterflies, painted bats, and made owl masks. (everytime I said masks, Max thought we were making something specifically for him :)).

Another Fun Day

Today the kids really enjoyed doing their M page. We made mittens muddy with chocolate pudding-which they also made. I gave them the option of painting with their fingers or a giant marshmallow. Most of them stayed pretty clean by using the marshmallow-Garen gets the award for getting chocolate pudding over most of his body and Carter wins the award for being the most worried about getting it on him. :)

Also today we laid down on big paper and traced our bodies, then filled in the face, hair, clothes, etc. I guess laying on a piece a paper to be traced is scarier than I thought so we had some brave helpers lay down for the kids who choose not to. They turned out pretty interesting. We will finish coloring them in on Monday and then you're welcome to come down and take a peek at some of your kid's artwork that is hanging up.

The class loved playing the game, guess what body part this is and who it belongs to. (I zoomed in on different parts of each kid and printed the pictures).

Today was our first attempt at cutting. When you have the opportunity please practice this skill with your child. We will be using the scissors often and I cant do hand over hand cutting with 6 kids at the same time.

We missed Kristinah today, the class wasn't the same without her!

Our Preschool Class

First Day of Preschool

The kids did amazingly well today on their first day! There was no crying and no fighting, I couldn't have a better group of kids! They all loved singing new songs today. We talked about the letter S and it's sound and made Shiny Snakes. We also talked about sharing and making friends with the book, The Rainbow Fish. Then they got to add glitter to their own fish. We also painted giant jellyfish.
If you don't see any art projects coming home it's because we are using them to decorate our room and brighten things up.
I think we're going to have a great year!
